(Rose Hall, Jamaica) - November 11, 2005 -The Palmyra Resort & Spa at Rose Hall, Jamaica's first luxury beachfront condo hotel community, celebrated its official groundbreaking on November 10, 2005, at its Sales Center located at The Palms next to the Ritz-Carlton(r) Rose Hall. More than 200 dignitaries including the Most Hon. P.J. Patterson, Prime Minister of Jamaica, investors, buyers and media representatives from Jamaica, the United States and Europe attended the event, which was presided over by Jamaica Promotions Corporation Chairman, Joseph Matalon.
After a welcome speech by Michele Rollins of Rose Hall Developments, co-developer of The Palmyra, Reverend Charles Dufour, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Montego Bay, blessed the land and the development of The Palmyra and its people. Robert T. Trotta, moving force behind the Resort Properties Group and co-developer of The Palmyra, gave a brief overview of the new development and thanked the Jamaican government for its assistance in bringing the project to fruition. The main address was given by Prime Minister Patterson, who welcomed Trotta to the island and thanked him for the group's substantial investment in Jamaica.
"It is a pleasant duty for me to be here today at this very special spot in our country's beautiful landscape, which is on its way to becoming Jamaica's first integrated resort, a new trend in the world's tourist industry," said Prime Minister Patterson. "The Palmyra offers investors an added value lifestyle and the benefit of an investment opportunity that, over time, will appreciate in value while offering guests luxury accommodation. I look forward to The Palmyra being a star in the crown of Jamaica."
The Prime Minister also handed Trotta the prestigious Bentley International Property Award plaque for Best Caribbean Development, recently awarded to The Palmyra at the annual Bentley Awards Ceremony in London. Selected by an international panel of judges that included luxury property specialists from the fields of media, estate agents, golf design, architecture, interior design, web design and marketing, the Best Caribbean Development award is a true testament to the type of resort The Palmyra will quickly become.
"Why Jamaica? I'm here to share with you the answer," said Trotta. "If everyone turns their head just 30 degrees to the right toward the ocean, it is absolutely beautiful. We look forward to showing off the natural landscape, Jamaican people and culture and will be extremely proud when The Palmyra is complete."
Rollins also expressed her excitement regarding Rose Hall's growth and continued development.
"Today is a happy day for us," said Rollins. "Bob Trotta, you have brought the first luxury condominium hotel concept fully-owned to Jamaica. While I applaud you for your good sense, good judgment and great vision, I also applaud the members of Jamaica's government, who were able to adapt and work with us as we broke ground."
Through a variety of departments including sales, marketing, construction, management, personal concierge services, customer service, spa, restaurants and maintenance, The Palmyra has and will continue to create an estimated 1,000 new jobs in Jamaica. Additionally, The Palmyra staff will help its residents and guests explore the best of Jamaica by coordinating guided adventures with local tour companies, directing guests to notable landmarks and events such as the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, and ensuring all facets of their vacations are seamless and memorable.
Located next to the Ritz-Carlton(r) on 16 acres of pristine waterfront land in Montego Bay, The Palmyra offers world-class amenities including preferred access to three internationally-acclaimed golf courses and a five-star ESPA, designed by award-winning, internationally-recognized spa designer Susan Harmsworth. The Palmyra's groundbreaking launches the first phase of construction, which encompasses 11 villas, two condo buildings, the Susan Harmsworth-designed ESPA, the Clubhouse, the infinity pool and the private beach. This phase of construction is set for completion in the third quarter of 2007. The complete real estate offering includes 13 duplex buildings comprising 26 villas and five condominium buildings with approximately 630 individual condo units. Prices for the villas and condos range from the $400s to $5 million. The Palmyra has already attracted dozens of buyers from all over the world and has captured the attention of global media.
