The Palmyra Foundation is staging a benefit concert on December 6 in an effort to raise funds to aid its cause.
THIRD WORLD, MARCIA GRIFFITHS & TESSANNE CHIN TO JOIN FORCES WITH THE PALMYRA FOUNDATION TO BENEFIT THE CHILREN OF JAMAICA
(MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA) - November 21 2008 - Following weeks of text book distributions to public infant schools across the length and breadth of the island, The Palmyra Foundation will stage a benefit concert in Rose Hall in an effort to raise funds to aid its cause. The event is blessed to present Third World in concert along with Marcia Griffiths and Tessanne Chin on Saturday December 6, 2008 at the site of the Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival against the backdrop of the aqueduct adjacent to the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course. Says the operating committee about the event; "What better way to raise funds for Jamaica's children than through a benefit concert celebrating their future with great music, delicious food and fantastic company. I look forward to the evening, knowing that it will be a fun night out and literally 100% of the proceeds will go to the children of Jamaica by way of educational tools."
It is expected that the community will be out in full force to support the Foundation, after its successful first annual fundraising event last year. Hosted by Prime Minister Bruce Golding, 500 people attended the event at The Shoppes at Rose Hall, which raised in excess of $100,000 USD. This year's goal is to raise $200,000 USD to coincide with the expansion of book distributions to all the island's public infant schools. For the 2008/2009 school year 10,971 children attending 88 of the island's public infant schools received 50,000 texts. The books were donated free of charge by The Palmyra Foundation and all of the charity's operating costs absorbed by the developers of The Palmyra Resort & Spa.
Featuring an exciting lineup of artistes, the concert is expected to be the highlight of Montego Bay's social calendar this December. To ensure an "up close and personal" concert, only 1,000 tickets will be available, making it a uniquely intimate affair. In addition to enjoying the cadre of outstanding performers, patrons will have the opportunity to bid on a number of items donated by event sponsors in a silent auction all for the benefit of Jamaica's infant school children.
One of the event's title sponsors, Solís Hotels & Resorts, the management company handpicked to operate the luxurious 5-star Solís The Palmyra Resort & Spa in Rose Hall, has donated their services to coordinate the concert. Lester Scott, General Manager at Solís The Palmyra expressed his delight in being a part of the event; "When you realize the difference you can make in a child's life by giving them the basic necessary textbooks to learn it is inspiring. This made it easy for us to get involved and we are honoured to have the opportunity to be a part of this great cause." With its involvement in the event, the company will be giving Jamaica a taste of the ‘Solís way' and attendees can look forward to exceptional service during the show and outstanding food and beverage.
