The Palmyra Foundation

Our Story

Under the slogan "The future is bright, when you can read and write!" The Palmyra Foundation is dedicated to providing school books to 4 and 5 year old school pre-K and Kindergarten children in public infant schools in Jamaica. By providing text book and other educational materials, The Palmyra Foundation aims to help eradicate illiteracy and promote a positive outlook and prosperity for the children of Jamaica. A secondary objective is to improve the children's self esteem, introduce them to role models and ultimately give hope of success to children growing up under challenging circumstances.
The Palmyra Foundation is registered as a non-profit charity in Jamaica and a 501 (c) (3) charitable foundation in the U.S. Since it's startup in 2007, the Foundation has donated 79,000 books to 18,000 children and more than 100 international volunteers have helped distribute books at 80 schools across Jamaica. In September 2011, The Palmyra Foundation provided 3,216 children with their own book bag containing a pack of crayons, a pencil, a colorful 300 page BrainQuest Workbook and 2 or 3 Scholastic reading books at a value of US$30 per pack. To date, the Palmyra Foundation has donated books for over US$500,000.
The non-profit charity is audited by Deloitte & Touch.
